Surgical Technologist PRN
Job Description
The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
Position Overview
* Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
* Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures. Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment.
* May be required to transport patient to and from the operating room.
* Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
* Typically reports to a registered nurse.
* Assists with patient care responsibilities on the OB unit including vital signs, assisting with toileting and ambulation, passing meal trays, setting up delivery tables, etc.
Qualifications:
* Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
* Must be certified to perform CPR
* Desirable characteristics include at least two (2) years of experience in a hospital or medical environment as a scrub technician.
* Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
